Car Crashes Into Garfield Home

GARFIELD (KDKA) – Two preschoolers and a baby were inside a car that lost control in Pittsburgh's Garfield neighborhood.

The driver, 55-year-old Kenneth Green, told police the brakes failed in his Mercury Marquis in the 5300-block of Hillcrest Street around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"He was flying around the corner, coming real fast around the corner," Stephanie Anderson, a witness, said. "We heard a bang."

Green hit a parked Toyota Echo.

"I just walked out of the house and saw my car which is parked over here smashed," The owner of the Toyota told KDKA-TV.

The Marquis came to a rest once it hit the side of the house at 5358 Hilcrest Street. The homeowner was at work.

"It could have been bad," Martha Fletcher, sister of the driver, said. "Thank God [there wasn't anyone] in that house that got hurt."

Green was bleeding and slightly injured. The three children were in car seats and were taken to Children's Hospital for an evaluation.
