PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The manhunt is over.
After 55 days, the FBI has captured one of the nation's most wanted criminals.
Ken Konias had been on the run since the end of February after he allegedly murdered an armored truck guard and stole millions of dollars.
He seemingly vanished until he was found hundreds of miles away in Pompano Beach, Fla. and he is now in federal custody.
The FBI and local officials held a press conference Tuesday morning to announce Konias' arrest.
Around 9 p.m. Monday, Pittsburgh Police received a call from a Florida resident who indicated that Konias was hiding out at a Pompano Beach residence.
Pittsburgh Police contacted the FBI, who contacted the FBI in Miami who alerted the South Florida Violent Crimes Task Force.
Shortly after midnight, they located Konias and arrested him without incident. He admitted his identity when arrested and was reportedly cooperative with the arresting officials.
During his arrest authorities recovered over $1 million in cash that was stored either at the house or in a storage locker. They also recovered two weapons, including a service revolver which they believe Konias used to allegedly shoot Michael Haines.
"He encountered several individuals in South Florida who he confided in regarding his criminal activity in the Pittsburgh area. This resulted in the aforementioned information being provided to the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. During his arrest a large sum of money and two weapons were also recovered by the FBI in Miami," Michael Rodriguez with the FBI said.
