Animal Abuse Suspected In Bulger
BULGER (KDKA) -- Wrapped in plastic and covered with flies, neighbors believe that the body of a chocolate Lab lies in a shallow grave in the yard of a trailer home just off Bigger Road in Bulger, Washington County.
Washington Area Humane Society officers were alerted that three dogs were left alone inside for three days last week.
"Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – we had [those] 95-98 degree, real high humidity," says neighbor Terri Cherry. "And locked up in a trailer with no windows open - I mean it has to be hot."
Cherry called the Humane Society Friday and an investigator showed up Saturday.
"He said that the dogs [were in there] way too long being in there for 72 hours," Cherry said.
She says the owner is Fred Fisher who lives there with his girlfriend and that they returned late Saturday night. The next activity was Sunday morning.
"There was a guy that come out dug the hole, threw the bag in the hole and left it the way it is," Cherry said.
The stench has been powerful.
"The smell is really bad," she said. "The grandkids can't even come out in the yard and play."
A police officer from McDonald arrived to assist. Still no answer at the door.
"I understand that there was a party inside the house," says McDonald Police Chief Mark Dorsey, "but she wasn't answering the door."
According to the chief, humane officers will make the next move.
"The Humane Society officers will investigate further and prepare a search warrant," Dorsey said.
If it is determined that there has been abuse, the Humane Society can level penalties which can be steep.
That's fine with Cherry.
"I hope something's done because there's already one dog dead and I don't want to see the other two die," she said.
