8-Year-Old Remains In Critical Condition After Being Struck By Vehicle

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – An 8-year-old boy is listed in critical condition at Children's Hospital after he was struck by an SUV while riding his bike in Point Breeze.

It happened shortly after 5 p.m. Monday.

The child was riding with his father and a sibling near the intersection of North Lexington and Reynolds Streets.

"There were three of them riding together, a parent and his two children and one of the children was struck," said Pittsburgh Police Lt. Craig Campbell.

KDKA's Kym Gable Reports:

A witness tells KDKA's Kym Gable, "I was arriving home from work and I saw a car stopped with a boy under it, and I got very scared."

The vehicle missed the parent and other child, but struck the 8-year-old, who became pinned under the SUV.

Neighbors rushed to help, and there are reports of one of them performing CPR until medics arrived.

Detectives questioned the female driver, who stayed at the scene and was visibly distraught.

No charges had yet been filed.

"It's just sad on both sides. Neither the family nor the driver expected this to happen tonight," said neighbor Marryanne Loebig.
