Skiers Rescued At Boyce Park
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Boyce Park slopes and ski lift are closed today after an incident there on Wednesday evening.
Boyce Park Recreation Director Tom Mettrick says a ski lift cable malfunctioned, stranding about 40 skiers for up to an hour and 15 minutes.
They were rescued by park maintenance personnel and ski patrol members using ladders and ropes.
"It broke down right before we got on and it was full all the way to the top," Nicole Innes, of Penn Hills, said of the rescue. "We just saw them throwing ropes up over the top. I was pretty glad that I wasn't on there cause it would have been scary to get down after that."
KDKA's Heather Abraham reports:
No one was injured.
State inspectors must come to the park again to approve lift repairs before it can reopen.
It's the second time this week there's been a problem with the ski lift. On Saturday, about 100 skiers were stranded and had to be rescued after someone fell at the top of the lift.
The person grabbed the chair, pulled it sideways and pulled the cable off the guide wheel.
KDKA's Ralph Iannotti reports:
According to the Allegheny County Parks Department, the snow tubing and beginner areas will be open today.
