PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Thousands of athletes took to the streets early Sunday morning to participate in the 37th Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race!
The 5K event began at 8 a.m., while the 10K event will start at 9:30 a.m.
This year's route took runners down Forbes Avenue, Fifth Avenue and the Boulevard of the Allies toward the finish in Point State Park for the 10K event, while the 5K event started at Fifth Avenue and Atwood Street in Oakland.
A total of 16,000 participants took part in this year's event, 10,500 in the 10K run and 5,500 in the 5K run/fitness walk. It broke last year's record of 15,500.
The top female runners were 24-year-old Carly Seymour, who finished the 10K in 34:02 and 30-year-old Michelle Crokum, who finished the 5K in 17:45. The top male runners were 23-year-old Jim Spisak, who finished the 10K in 28:43, and 26-year-old Steve Kirkland, who finished the 5K in 15:50.
