PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Two corrections officers were taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after being attacked by an inmate at the Allegheny County Jail.
According to Deputy Warden Jason Beasom, the incident happened just after 4 p.m. as one of the guards was removing an inmate's handcuffs.
It reportedly happened in Pod 6E.
The deputy warden says the inmate became aggressive and struck the officer in his eye.
The second officer came to the aid of the first, and both were able to get the inmate under control until backup arrived.
Both officers were seen by the medical staff at the jail and then taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The inmate was not injured, but was checked over by the jail's medical staff.
