A Tibetan Mastiff puppy in 2011 sold for $1.5 million. The breed, a member of the Working Group in this year's 137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, is difficult to find, according to the American Kennel Club, but nomads in China still breed it.

A German shepherd reportedly trained by a man who used to supply dogs to Seal Team 6, the U.S. special forces unit which neutralized Osama bin Laden, was sold in 2011 for $230,000. Julia, the dog, responds to German, including "packen," which translates to "seize." The German shepherd benches in the Herding Group of the 137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Participating as a member of Non-Sporting Group in 137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is this dog of German decent, the Lowchen -- German for "little lion" -- arguably the rarest dog of all. The breed dates back at least 400 years, says the American Kennel Club. A Lowchen thoroughbred typically starts at $2,000.
