Kid Capri held up an Adidas sneaker and bowl hat -- trademarks of Run-DMC and Jam Master Jay. Jam Master Jay was shot and killed in 2002. The J.A.M. awards were held in honor of the hip hop pioneer who was Run-DMC's DJ.
Run-DMC's Darryl McDaniels, (aka DMC) took the stage to perform at the J.A.M. awards. DMC hosted the event with Jam Master Jay's wife, Terri Corley-Mizell. Jam Master Jay's foundation presented three awards, for justice, music and art.

Mobb Deep, known for hits like "Survival of the Fittest," and "Outta Control" performed with an entourage of what appears to be 15-20 men. Some liberally poured Hennessey and Kettle One vodka into audience members' mouths.

Rapper Q-Tip presented the award for the arts to Lee Quinones. Q-Tip was a member of the group A Tribe Called Quest and has also enjoyed a successful solo career.

Snoop Dogg performed a litany of his biggest hits including "Drop It Like Its Hot" and "Ain't Nothin' But A G Thing." Before launching into "Gin and Juice," he told the audience that it was a concoction he and Jam Master Jay liked to drink together.
Two hip hop legends from opposite coasts -- DMC from New York and Snoop from California -- performed the Run-D.M.C. hit "Sucker MCs."
