Joaquin Phoenix was chosen as the favorite leading man at the People's Choice Awards. The annual ceremony was canceled because of the Writers Guild of America strike, and Queen Latifah hosted a taped program including acceptance speeches from the stars on Jan. 8, 2008.

The CBS comedy "Two and a Half Men" won Favorite TV Comedy for the second time. Fourteen-year-old Angus T. Jones, who stars opposite Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer on the show, said "I kind of wanted to tell you a joke but the writers are on strike so I have nothing."
