New Jersey pastor honoring the legacy of Black Civil War soldiers inside historic Camden cemetery
In the 1800s, Dempsey Daniel Butler, an abolitionist, ardent supporter of the Underground Railroad and New Jersey businessman, set aside a plot of land at the corner of Charles Street and Ferry Avenue in Camden. Today, that land is under the care of Rev. Floyd White III, whose mission is to honor and remember the eight Black Civil War soldiers who are buried there.
