The Biden administration announced the release of three U.S. citizens from Russia, including Evan Gershkovich, Paul Whelan and Alsu Kurmasheva, as part of a complex 24-person prisoner swap.
Evan Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal reporter and Princeton, N.J. native, was released from a Russian prison on Thursday.
Wayne Sutcliffe, Gershkovich's former coach, said the current team dedicated its 2023 season to Gershkovich, including wearing shirts that said "I stand with Evan."
