Who Paid To Bring The DNC To Philadelphia?
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two months after the Democratic National Convention, the host committee has released the list of donors who helped pay for it.
From Silicon Valley to South Philly, $85 million in donations poured in to the Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention.
In an 1100-page filing with the Federal Elections Commission, the Committee revealed that Facebook gave more than $1 million, Comcast provided a half-million, plus $5 million in in-kind donations.
There were also donations from big banks and unions. In a conference call to discuss the filing, Host Committee chair Ed Rendell says there were no city contributions.
"We got no city money. As you will see, the City of Philadelphia didn't extend one dollar towards this effort."
Rendell says the committee has $10 million cash on hand with $6 million in obligations, and he expects to finish with a surplus after the bills are paid. He says that's the first time in 32 years a Democratic convention has finished in the black.
Activists called on the host committee to disclose its donors before the convention. The committee filed its donor list at the FEC deadline, 60 days after the convention.
