1 dead, multiple hurt after driver having possible medical emergency crashes in Havertown, Pennsylvania, police say

One man died and multiple people were hurt in a crash in Haverford Township, Pennsylvania, Saturday afternoon, police said.

Investigators believe the driver of a pickup truck may have been experiencing a medical emergency. The man was driving erratically for about a mile on West Chester Pike from Darby Road to Eagle Road around 12:15 p.m.

The pickup truck sideswiped several cars along West Chester Pike before slamming into a U-Haul truck near the intersection with Eagle Road, Haverford Township Police Chief John F. Viola said.

The driver of the pickup truck died, police said. The people who were hurt did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, Viola said.

West Chester Pike/Route 3 westbound is shut down in that area for the investigation. One lane is getting by on the eastbound side. Police plan to use a drone to take aerial images of the scene.

Many police officers were already in the area for Haverford Township Day when they received the call, Viola said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
