Weekend Heat Wave Continues to Blanket the Region

Philadelphia's sweltering weather has broken the record high temperature for Saturday. The National Weather Service says the mercury hit 97 degrees, breaking the old mark of 95 for the day set in 1987.

KYW's Mike Dougherty reports the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging's heatline will be in operation until 6pm. That number is 215-765-9040.

The KYW Accu-Weather five-day forecast:

Today will be hot and humid with a mix of sun and clouds; a thunderstorm or two in the area, which could be strong and gusty with a high of 93.

A thunderstorm this evening, then partly cloudy overnight with a low of 73.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny, but less humid with a high near 90.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny, quite warm, but still not that humid with a high 0f 89.

Wednesday will be more humid with sun and building clouds; a thunderstorm possible in the
afternoon with a high 92.

Thursday, times of clouds and sun with a thunderstorm or two possible and a high of 90.

The Jersey shore forecast:

Today, times of sun and clouds, hot and humid with a strong thunderstorm this afternoon or evening and a high of 93.

Partly cloudy tonight  with a low of 74.

Tomorrow, mostly sunny and less humid and a high of 85.
