Sunny, chilly Thursday in Philadelphia area before dangerous cold temps arrive. Here's the weather forecast.
Thursday started off colder than Wednesday around the Philadelphia area thanks to clearer skies.
As we've reminded you all week, keep an eye out for areas of black ice on streets and sidewalks as some snow may have melted yesterday and refrozen overnight.
It will be a sunny, chilly day with temperatures well below normal, but temperatures will get above freezing for a short period in the afternoon and melt a little more snow.
NEXT big weather change
An Arctic cold front is our next big weather story. This will blast through overnight Friday into Saturday with snow showers and squalls likely between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m., and can lead to a quick accumulation in spots as well as very low visibility for drivers.
Temps will plunge early Saturday and windchills will struggle to get above zero MOST of the weekend. Winds themselves will likely gust upwards of 40 mph for a time, with the strongest on Saturday during the day. Air temps may drop to the single digits Saturday and climb no higher than the teens in the afternoon.
it'll be a brutally and dangerously cold day. Wind chills may even approach -15 near the city, and at that level of cold, frostbite can develop within 30 minutes. Even colder wind chills in the Poconos are likely Saturday and Saturday night.
Winds won't be as strong Sunday but feels-like temps will stay below 10 degrees, even during peak heating of the day.
It's likely that this weekend will bring the coldest temperatures of the winter so far. We haven't yet dropped into the single digits in the city but may do so Saturday, Sunday AND Monday.
The bitter air will continue into early next week before moderating a bit midweek and into the following weekend.
