Ursinus College President John Strassburger Dead At 68

(PHILADELPHIA / KYW Newsradio 1060) -- Ursinus College is mourning the loss of its president, who died today.

KYW's Ian Bush reports that John Strassburger, 68, suffered from prostate cancer.

Strassburger served at the helm of the school in Collegeville (Montgomery County), Pa. for more than 15 years.  His health forced him to step down this summer, but he continued at the Montgomery County campus as president emeritus:

"He was transformative at this place -- that's for sure."

Ursinus' interim president John "Jef" Corsen says the college is a living memorial to Strassburger:

"Not only in terms of the quality of the students and faculty that are here now that have grown in terms of their ability and in terms of their commitment and in terms of their achievement during his tenure, but the campus itself has also been revitalized."

Ursinus plans a memorial service on campus at 4:30pm on Sunday, in Bomberger Hall. The search continues for Strassburger's replacement.
