Trying Times For Philadelphia's Antique Row?
Is center city Philadelphia's Antique Row standing the test of time?
(Christaldi): "This chandelier is a Russian-style chandelier with a blue cobalt center."
KYW's John McDevitt reports John Christaldi is the owner of Albert Maranca Antiques. The store was located at 11th and Pine since 1956. He says business hasn't exactly been booming and he's being forced to close the doors for good. He's having a 60 percent off sale:
"The business is not the same any more, the streets are not the same, we use to have forty shops here at one time."
Now there are just a handful of antique stores, the rest just a mixture of stores like clothing boutiques, a variety store, and a soon-to-be coffee shop. With an eclectic assemblage of stores, should the name antique row remain?
(Harris): "I feel very strongly to keep Antique Row because there is that branding involved."
Paul Harris, co-owner of A Show Of Hands Gallery, selling new and old, says business is good and giving shoppers options is key:
"And people enjoy that seeing a mixture of things."
