The newest restaurant in Stephen Starr's empire, Dandelion already has a rep for great food and a unique vibe. Starring British classics like fish and chips and shepherd's pie, the menu also includes a tea list and English breakfast classics. Black pudding, anyone?

Fresh, seasonal takes on pub fare make the Standard Tap a standard example of a great gastropub. Chef Carolynn Angle uses mainly local ingredients, and the restaurant sports an ever-changing menu. Bonus: Standard Tap supports PA's Buy Fresh Buy Local movement, as well as urban agriculture from Greensgrow Farms.
Khyber Pass Pub

The old Khyber was a complete (but loveable) dive, featuring a bathroom straight from a horror movie and black-painted walls, not to mention a DJ who smashed his Mac computer on the dance floor in the middle of his shift (believe me—I witnessed it). The new Khyber Pass Pub, on the other hand, maintains the landmark charm of the old spot, but with a decidedly upscale vibe. Plus, the menu runs the entire gamut--from vegetarian/vegan fare, to carnivorous delights like "Bacon Grease Popcorn." Um, yum?

The owners of Standard Tap also own hipster-haven and music venue Johnny Brenda's, and unsurprisingly, JB's also offers up great food. Like the Standard Tap, the emphasis here is on fresh, local and seasonal items. Chalk-boards bear the current menu, which changes often, and all of the beer is local.
Resurrection Ale House

Situated in a prime spot near the Naval Square Condos, Resurrection Ale House is a craft beer bar and restaurant that 's surrounded by blooming flowers in the warmer months. Their unique menu has items like a pear and pumpkin sandwich and tagliatelle topped with a fried duck egg, and owners Brendan Hartranft and Leigh Maida pride themselves on maintaining a small, close-knit staff.

Sister to Khyber Pass (and two others), I have three words to say about old school, veggie-friendly Royal Tavern: Best. Burger. Ever. It includes long hots, and smoked gouda, and it's amazing. While I've heard there are tons of other things on the menu that are super delicious, I wouldn't know.
