Top Bodies Of Water To Visit Near Philadelphia

The days are getting warmer so it's no surprise that we are anticipating summer adventures. Pennsylvania may be a landlocked state but it doesn't mean we can't have fun at any of the number of lakes and rivers you can find near Philadelphia. Whether you're fantasizing about floating down a lazy river in an inner tube or whipping behind a motor boat on water skis, you can find some kind of body of water the whole family can enjoy around the Philadelphia region.

The Delaware Water Gap has over 40 miles of river for recreation and 67,000 acres of mountains and riverine valleys. There is also over 100 miles of hiking trails along streams, mountaintops, and ridges where you will spot many different types of wildlife. The park offers a variety of activities and events that cater to all ages. Whether you float down the river on inner tubes or visit the Ecozone Discovery Room where you can climb into a bald eagle's nest, a bat cave, or dig in a fossil pit.

Schuylkill River is over 128-miles long and offers a whole lot of fun and adventure. The Schuylkill River National and State Heritage Area shares a wide range of historic, recreational and cultural attractions. There are plenty of river trails to follow, quaint river towns to visit and the perfect river for kayaking.

There is something for everyone at this 1200-acre park. Visitors are able to rent canoes, rowboats, kayaks if they'd like. Core Creek Park also offers windsurfing and sailboats. There are also plenty of winding hiking trails which are also great for mountain bikers and horses. You'll be sure to spot some white-tailed deer, waterfowl, songbirds and a wide variety of wildlife. There are plenty of spots for a family picnic or get together with friends.

Lake Nockamixon is the perfect place for all types of boating, including catamarans and windsurfing. It is also a great place for fishing. There is also plenty of small paddle boats to rent and there is also a swimming pool. You will find 10 overnight cabins available for rent which offers modern amenities. Park hours are from sunrise to sunset from spring to fall. Some designated areas offer 24-hour access. The picnic areas are equipped with tables and charcoal grills and are available first come first served.

Marsh Creek State Park, located in beautiful Chester County, has 1727 acres of park and a 535-acre Marsh Creek Lake. Spend your time fishing, sailing and observing migrating waterfowl. There are several picnic areas with over 150 tables for you and your family to enjoy. The park is also equipped with restrooms, grills and a playground for the kids to enjoy. The Marsh also has a swimming pool and a playground which is a popular attraction for kids of all ages. The pool area also has a snack bar and bath house. Electric motors are permitted for use on the lake and has two boat launches and 244 seasonal mooring slips.
