To Cap Testimony, Defendant In Philadelphia Cop Scuffle Shows Jury His Fake Eye

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A bizarre assault-on-police case continued to play out today in a Philadelphia courtroom.

This morning, 23-year-old defendant Darrell Holloway told the jury he didn't attack police. And he says that as officers hit him, he couldn't fight back or protect himself because he is completely blind, and has been since he took a shotgun blast to the face when he was targeted in a robbery in 2007 (See Previous Story).

Holloway says police were looking for guns or drugs when he was the subject of a pedestrian stop last year. He had neither, but still he was patted down.

And then, he says, an officer grabbed his belt and started pulling him. Holloway says he planted his feet in resistance, and that's when the beating began.

At the end of his testimony today, he took out his prosthetic right eye and showed it to the jury, repeating earlier testimony that he can't see anything out of the other eye either, which was damaged in the same 2007 shooting.

But officers have testified he gave no indication he was blind that night last year, even taking a boxer's stance at one point and battling police for several minutes before he was subdued.

Holloway and Officer Anthony Lazzaro were both bloodied and required treatment at a nearby hospital, although neither was admitted.
