Teen Pair Charged In 'Thelma & Louise' Crime Spree In Delaware County

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) - Two Upper Darby women are being charged in connection with more than two dozen burglaries near their home and in nearby Prospect Park over the last couple of months.

And there could be additional cases.

Nineteen-year-olds Harley Gifford and Britney Singleton broke into homes for the sheer thrill of it, according to Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood. And they took anything they could -- everything from toilet paper to religious statuary, plus a huge flat-screen TV and a total of about $21,000 in cash.

And police say this latter-day "Thelma and Louise" made off with all that loot without the aid of a car.

"They said they've stolen so much stuff that they can't get rid of it quick enough, and we got four or five places that they've gotten rid of some of the merchandise that they stole," Chitwood told reporters today.

Indeed, Chitwood jokingly refers to the duo as "Thelma and Louise," although no one's laughing about their alleged crime spree.

Victims are being contacted in hopes of reuniting them with some of their stuff, although not all of the booty was recovered.
