Summer Activities Offered For Schoolkids Throughout Philadelphia's Historic District

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As summer gets underway for the region's schoolchildren, the tourism agency Historic Philadelphia wants to help parents fill the time off.
Today, officials unveiled some of the season's offerings.
The "Cabinetmaker's Apprentices," as one duo is known, will greet visitors to Historic Philadelphia's headquarters, in costume and with colonial shtick:
"I've never understood that phrase, children of all ages," says one. "I mean, children by definition encompass a fairly small scope of ages..."
The nonprofit agency, not affiliated with Independence National Historic Park, manages nearby attractions that include the Betsy Ross House and Franklin Square, and offers activities at its 6th and Chestnut headquarters.
Summer events include storytelling at benches scattered throughout the historic district, and specialty events such as the evening walking tour called "Independence After Hours."
