Study: Millennials Having Less Sex Than Previous Generations
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A recent study suggests that today's young adults are having less casual sex than previous generations.
Brooke Wells is an associate professor at the Center for Human Sexuality Studies at Widener University. She says the findings were published this week in the Archives of Sexual Behavior:
"Young adults, particularly those 20-24, who were born in the 1990s, are much less likely to be sexually active than young adults that were born in previous generations."
As for reasons why....
"Young adults are more likely to live with their parents," says Wells, "and certainly living with your parents puts a damper on your sex life, young adults are also delaying marriage and long term relationships and those are often the context in which sex happens."
Wells also says this generation has a more intimate relationship with the Internet, which may decrease their need for more human contact.
