Sixers Send Jason Thompson To Warriors For Gerald Wallace
By Ray Boyd
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Jason Thompson, we hardly knew you.
The Sixers acquired Jason Thompson earlier this off-season in the deal that netted them Nik Stauskas from the Kings. Thompson, a native of Mount Laurel, N.J. and a Rider product was excited to be coming home to play for the team that he grew up rooting for.
Thompson referred to playing for the Sixers as a dream. Thompson just woke up.
The Sixers announced on Friday that they were trading Thompson to the defending champion Golden State Warriors in exchange for forward Gerald Wallace, cash and draft considerations.
In Gerald Wallace, the Sixers get a 14-year NBA veteran with postseason experience. He has career averages of 11.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game in just under 30 minutes.
The Sixers have made it a priority to acquire assets and the draft considerations and cash in this trade symbolize that. Wallace is also on the final year of a deal that will pay him just north of $10 million. That money and expiring contract could aid the Sixers in another potential deal.
