Sixers Give Away 76 Thanksgiving Dinners During School Visit In Olney
By Kim Glovas
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Students at Lowell Elementary School got a treat after school today, when some of the Philadelphia 76ers showed up to hand out turkey dinners to some fortunate families.
Ninety-six families whose children go to Lowell signed up for the turkey dinners through Philadabundance, and 76 families won the dinners in a raffle. Sonya Winters, whose granddaughter, Amani, goes to school here, was one of the lucky ones.
"Every month we get food from here, and I just been coming every month because I really need it, and I thank God that I won the raffle here the last month, and it's just a blessing," Winters said.
Sixers Guard Michael Carter-Williams was one of the players on hand and says the kids were great.
"They're awesome, ya know, it's good to see a smile on their face so that's priceless," Carter-Williams said.
The lucky families also got tickets to the Sixers game on Friday night.
