35-year-old man fatally shot in Northeast Philadelphia after argument; suspect at large, police say

A 35-year-old man was shot and killed in Northeast Philadelphia Wednesday night following an argument, police said.

Philadelphia Police Department Chief Inspector Scott Small said officers responded to the 6600 block of Summerdale Avenue, near Magee Avenue just after 7 p.m. and found the man lying in the street next to a running SUV.

The 35-year-old was shot at least once in the back. Small said he was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 7:45 p.m.

Authorities later identified the man killed as Vaswani Brown, who they said lives a few blocks from the shooting scene.

Small said the whole shooting was captured on private surveillance cameras and happened after an argument in a nearby store.

Police believe Brown and another man got into an argument inside the store and it spilled into the street.

While Brown was sitting inside his parked SUV, the alleged shooter walked up to the passenger's side window and fired three shots, Small said. The shooter then fled the scene on foot. He was last seen heading southbound on Summerdale Avenue toward Magee Avenue armed with a semiautomatic weapon.

Small said investigators found three spent shell casings on the passenger side of Brown's vehicle.

Small said police also found a semiautomatic handgun and three live rounds on the driver's side of the SUV. Investigators believe that gun belonged to Brown.

It's unclear what Brown and the other man were arguing about, according to Small.

The shooting is under investigation.
