Man dead, 2 children injured after car crashes into SEPTA trolley in Overbrook, police say
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 20-year-old man died and two children were injured after his Dodge Charger crashed into a SEPTA trolley in Philadelphia's Overbrook section on Thursday night, police said.
The crash happened at 59th Street and Lansdowne Avenue at around 8:20 p.m., authorities said.
Police said the Dodge caught on fire after crashing into the SEPTA trolley. The driver, later identified as Ahmir Henry, was taken to Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood and pronounced dead at 8:31 p.m.
The two children injured were on the trolley with their mother, police said. They were both taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Nine people, including the trolley driver, were on board.
Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said preliminary information police have gathered shows the trolley had the green light.
Police said they're looking at surveillance cameras on the trolley and at homes around the crash. They're also interviewing the trolley driver and residents in the area.
