Several Injured In 3 Separate Accidents Involving SEPTA Buses

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Several people were injured in three separate accidents involving SEPTA buses Tuesday night.
Authorities say the first happened at 8th and Vine in Center City at around 8 p.m. A SEPTA spokesman says a Route 47 bus was going south on 8th Street when it was hit by a car that ran a red light on Vine Street. Five people were hospitalized, their conditions are unclear.
A few hours later, at 19th and Arch, authorities say a Route 33 bus was hit by a car that ran a red light. The driver of the car was injured.
After that, SEPTA says a Route 52 bus was involved in an accident at 54th and Springfield Avenue. There, a SEPTA spokesman says a car blew threw a red light or stop sign and hit the bus. Two people in the car were injured, including a woman who was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Melvin Richardson has been driving a bus in town for about 15 years and says he sees careless driving all the time:
"Most of the time they're either on a cell phone or just occupied doing other things in their vehicle. It happens a lot, we do encounter it a lot."
In all, nine people were hurt with varying degrees of injuries.
