Retired Philly FBI Agent Weighs In On Orlando Investigation
by Kristen Johanson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As authorities piece together what happened during a deadly Orlando nightclub shooting, a former top-level FBI Agent, who worked in Philadelphia, gave CBS News insight into what goes into an investigation of this magnitude.
Ron Hosko served as Assistant Special in Charge in Philadelphia for four years.
"This crime is of course driven by hate," he said.
Hosko says any time terrorism is suspected, the FBI and Homeland Security get involved.
"That's the focus of this investigation, figure out what the drivers are and figure out what the connections are," said Hosko.
He says they have to look at all possible motives
"Is it anti-gay? Is it anti-American? Is it pro-terror, whether that's ISIS, or al-Qaeda or Taliban?" Hosko listed as examples.
And, he says, carefully piecing together the crime scene is key to stopping similar events.
"You have to reconstruct that and then tear it apart, and say how can we be better next time, because somewhere in America, this will happen again, but hopefully never on this scale," said Hosko.
