Residents Evacuated After Fire At Northeast Philadelphia Apartment Complex

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Residents were evacuated after a fire broke out inside an apartment complex in Northeast Philadelphia Wednesday morning.

The fire started at about 6 a.m. at the Atrium Apartment complex in the 2500 block of Welsh Road.

According to fire officials, the fire reportedly started in the fourth floor laundry room. Firefighters were able to place the fire under control in less than an hour.

Officials with the Red Cross said at least 30 apartments were affected. They also confirmed they assisted 42 families (71 people) in all at Pollock Elementary School, and all but one family had a place to stay Wednesday night. The one family that did not have a place to stay will be staying at the Red Cross House in University City.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
