Report: Ruben Amaro 'Looking To Buy'
by Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If you haven't had enough of the Phillies "buy or sell" discussion yet, I've got bad news for you. There are still three weeks left until the trade deadline, and the conversation will change every day depending on whether the Phillies have won the previous game.
With that, I present you today's update.
ESPN baseball insider Buster Olney reported this morning that the Phillies are "buyers." They've won three in a row, so it would seem that's the way the wind would blow today.
"Other teams that have talked with Phillies GM Ruben Amaro lately say he's talking about buying, not selling," Olney said via Twitter.
A report yesterday suggested that the Phillies were interested in Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain, perhaps in exchange for third baseman Michael Young. Given that the Phillies have Kevin Frandsen there to backup Young, which is essentially a lateral move at this point, dumping salary and adding potential bullpen piece isn't really a buy or sell move.
