Report: Phillies Talking Extension With Utley
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – As two losses to the Cardinals seem to illustrate the difference between contenders and non-contenders, the likelihood that the Phillies may trade a core player or two before next week's deadline seems to increase. It doesn't seem like one of those players however, will be Chase Utley.
According to a report from CSN's Jim Salisbury, the Phillies are talking to Chase Utley about a contract extension. Utley is in the last year of his contract, and without an extension will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
After an injury riddled 2012, Utley has bounced back for the Phillies this year, as one of the team's most consistent hitters along with Domonic Brown.
