People Seek Relief From Oppressive Heat Throughout Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Hot temperatures had many seeking out ways to stay cool on Wednesday. For Bruce Weinstein, the Monarch Pool in Northern Liberties trumps trekking down the shore any day of the week.

"Everybody I know goes down the shore all the time," he said. "I just don't get it. They travel and hour and a half, two hours in traffic. I roll out of bed, take a shower and come over."

Kayla Persichetti also enjoyed the pool on Wednesday. She enjoyed the easy opportunity to get some sun and finish her favorite novel.

There are, of course, plenty of people that have to work in the heat, like window washers with Jenkintown Building Services.

"There really is not much you can do except drinking plenty of water and putting sunblock on," said Field Manager Karl Klein. "That's about it. Maybe a hat and you're stuck until the sun goes away."

Klein said that his men come prepared since there are no bathrooms, or water breaks when you're hundreds of feet up.

Those that are not prepared for the excessive heat can turn to the city, where the National Weather Service's excessive heat warning means staff works later to man the city's emergency heat line.

The number to that line is 215-765-9040
