Reading Terminal Market celebrates grand opening of "The Market Merch" shop

The Reading Terminal Market, America's largest and oldest public market in Philadelphia, launched its new merchandise store, The Market Merch, on Wednesday.

With over 80 merchants currently in the market, this new merchandise store adds a dedicated space for Reading Terminal-themed gifts, including mugs, sweatshirts, hats, tote bags and more, arriving just in time for the holiday season.

Wednesday's celebration was joined by two Philadelphia illustrators, Fabiola Lara and Sean Rynkewicz. The artists displayed limited edition merchandise created using illustrations they designed exclusively for the Reading Terminal Market.

Lara debuted her viral mini-print machines and greeted visitors throughout the afternoon.

"I just feel so honored to be in such a historic site," Lara said.

"The market is so important to me because it's a hub where people can come to get a taste of Philadelphia," she added.

Rynkewicz displayed a train-themed design, created for a limited-edition T-shirt available to purchase at the market.

"I remember coming here in high school and just thinking how cool of a place it was, and so, to be here now, years later, is an honor, it's pretty fun," Rynkewicz said. "I'm excited about it."

Sales from the shop benefit the Reading Terminal Market Corporation, which is a nonprofit.

"Proceeds from the sale of these items help the nonprofit support its mission ... bringing fresh food within reach, creating economic opportunity, preserving the architecture and history of this national historic landmark and maintaining a welcoming public space for all to enjoy," director of marketing Maria DeLuca said.

Reading Terminal Market is open every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
