Radnor Police Investigate Inappropriate Comments On Social Media Allegedly Targeting Minors

RADNOR, Pa., (CBS) – Radnor Police are investigating after they say photos of minors ended up on an Instagram page, with inappropriate captions.

At this point, it's not clear if this is some kind of prank or not, in any case police say it is criminal.

More than 20 minors, many who go to the Radnor Middle School, were allegedly targeted.

A fictitious Instagram account was allegedly created.

It allegedly included normal fully clothed pictures of the students that were copied and then posted to the account and were accompanied with sexually explicit and lewd captions.

Radnor Police are now trying tracking down the person or persons who allegedly posted the images.

"We know it's harassment, possibly stalking and some other things. So whether somebody thinks it's funny or not, it relates to criminal charges, could relate to a permanent record depending on who they are. It is serious," said Radnor Police Lt. Chris Flanagan.

A spokesman for the Radnor Township School District said, "The district is aware of and cooperating with an investigation by the Radnor police into an inappropriate, now-deactivated Instagram account that included images of Radnor Middle School students taken outside of school and district property."

The images and inappropriate comments were first noticed Sunday night.

The subsequent police investigation uncovered more minors who were targeted.

The middle school is making counselors available to students who may need the support.

"It is upsetting, these are young people who shouldn't have to deal with this. They should be worried about school and their family life, not who's sending out very inappropriate messages," said Lt. Flanagan.

Police will hold a private meeting Friday with the 20 minors and their parents to inform them of the latest in the investigation.
