Shooting in West Philadelphia leaves 3 men, 1 woman injured, police say

A shooting in West Philadelphia left three men and a woman injured Tuesday night, Philadelphia Police Department Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. on the 1200 block of North 42nd Street, according to Small.

Small said officers arrived at the scene for the report of a shooting and found a 45-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center by police.

Minutes later, Small said, three additional people arrived at Penn Presbyterian suffering from gunshot wounds.

A 38-year-old woman was shot in the leg, a 41-year-old man was struck in the foot and another 45-year-old man was shot in the leg. Small said all four of the people who were wounded in the shooting were placed in stable condition.

Small said investigators found at least six spent shell casings on the 1200 block of North 42nd Street from a semi-automatic weapon or weapons. Police also found a folding knife with a four-inch blade, but it's unclear if that was involved in the incident.

A parked vehicle on the 1200 block of North 42nd Street was struck by gunfire, Small said.

Small said cameras in the area captured people running in different directions from the 1200 block of North 42nd Street, but they didn't capture the shooting.

Numerous homes on the street have cameras, and police hope that will help in their investigation, Small said.

Small said a motive for the shooting remains unclear, and no arrests have been made.
