Program For Young Philly Fashion Designers Keeps Growing
By John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An initiative to help support emerging Philadelphia fashion designers continues to grow.
The "Philadelphia Fashion Incubator," at Macy's department store in center city, is a yearlong designer-in-residence program that provides the participants workspace (top photo), guidance from industry professionals, and essential resources needed to run a business.
Annina King, who specializes in custom garments that go from daytime to cocktail event, graduated from the program today. She says the experience will help her expand her brand.
"Besides all the business classes, all the amazing things we've done with that, I would say one of the biggest aspects is our network," King tells KYW Newsradio, "and my advisory board that I built throughout the year, based on the people and mentors we have met. It's so big."
Six new designers preparing to go through the upcoming program have been introduced.
The Philadelphia program is part of a larger group of fashion incubators in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York.
