Pressured By Smart Phones, Digital Cameras Drop Prices

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Under increasing pressure from smart phones, camera manufacturers are dropping prices and offering new features this holiday season.

Industry analysts say you won't have to look hard to find a point and shot camera in the $100-$150 dollar range. There's more available than ever before.

But Lori Grunin, a senior editor at C-Net says that crop is comprised largely of older models. Grunin says, "It's still at the point where a really decent point and shoot is still going to run you $200-$250. There are a lot more for cheaper but the good ones are still more expensive."

Many of those next level models are offering new features such as 3D, GPS and Grunin's favorite: a multi-shot HDR.

"Basically what it means is when you're taking pictures in low light, the camera takes multiple shots and combines them to produce a better image in low light than you'd normally get."
