Prepare To Grow Better Grass
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Growing grass is sort of like painting a wall - the secret's in the prep work. If you want a lush lawn of green grass growing where you currently have weeds, or bare ground, you can't just sprinkle some seed, point a hose at it and hope it grows. That's like painting without washing, sanding or scraping - it won't look right in the end and it's a waste of your time and money. So, to get grass to grow, don't skip the basics.
Start by testing your soil to see if it's the right pH for growing grass. You don't have to be a scientist, you just gather a little baggie of soil. Some garden centers will test it for you on the spot and tell you what you need. Or you can always send a sample to your county extension, for a full report about exactly what to add to your soil in order to grow great grass - or vegetables, fruit, or anything else.
