Police Investigating Horse Drawn Buggy Hit And Run

DOVER, Del. (CBS) -- Police are investigating a hit and run crash involving a horse and buggy in Delaware.

It happened around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday evening northwest of Dover at the intersection of Sharon Hill and West Denneys Road.

Authorities say a 44 year-old man was in control of the horse-drawn buggy that stopped at the stop sign on Sharon Hill Road.

Police believe that the horse became spooked and jutted into the eastbound lane of West Denneys Road and was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound.

The vehicle continued traveling on West Denneys Road after colliding with the horse. The make and model of the vehicle is unknown.

Authorities say the man was uninjured, but the horse died from fatal wounds at the scene.
