Philly Preps for First Ever Film and Music Festival

The first-of-its-kind in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Film and Music Festival, kicks off later this month with hundreds of musical acts and dozens of film screenings.

KYW's Karin Phillips reports the festival will include Shunda K, the Dirty Milkmen, and over 280 other musical acts.  Over 60 film screenings will make up the first ever Philadelphia Film and Music Festival, or Philly F/M, for short.

Instead of segregating the genres, film and music will be combined in dynamic settings to attract new audiences for both mediums.

Founder Isaac Friese said he has seen other such festivals in other parts of the country and wondered if it could be done here.  He was told, "This is Philly, it won't work."

"We said, okay, well, let's do a music festival out here in Philly and we'll have a small film component to it and it'll be multi-venue with as many bands as we can get to fill it.  And just a real fun event with a record fair and an exhibitor show and kind of make it an alternative for those who don't get to go to those shows in Texas or New York."

Philly F/M will be held September 23rd through September 26th.  For more info, go to phillyfmfest.com.
