Philly Bars Could Stay Open Later For DNC

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Democratic National Convention Host Committee is now accepting applications from restaurants to temporarily extend their hours during the DNC.

Anna Adams-Sarthou with the Philadelphia 2016 host committee says there are parameters to establishments looking to extend their hours later this month:

"Bars and restaurants that have convention-related activities will be allowed to apply to receive the permit and if they are approved, the permit will allow them to stay open beyond 2 a.m."

Nevertheless, Christopher Mullins of McGillin's Old Ale House says he's going to pass on the opportunity:

"Not much good ever happens after midnight in a bar."

He says there are a lot of factors to consider when opting to stay open late:

"People have lives and your employees have lives and if they've been drinking all evening or all day you don't want to see them after 2:00."

Hank Henson, event coordinator at Bru Craft & Wurst, however, is excited about the opportunity:

"As the event coordinator I believe we're going to go for it and hope that it works out in our best interest."

But at $5,000 a permit and limited notice, he says he hopes the extended hours are a good investment:

"We're hoping that it's not another Pope event; the Pope was supposed to be really big for us and it wasn't."
