Afternoon sun dominates Philadelphia region: Here's the weather forecast

A very crisp, cool start to the morning, with 50s in the city and 40s in the burbs, heading for highs in the 60s today (cooler N and W), with plenty of sunshine. That breeze we had will subside as well. Tonight, we'll have patchy frost in some areas, with Carbon and Monroe counties under a frost advisory tonight into Wednesday morning.

Today will also be the coolest day, with 70s returning as early as tomorrow for most areas in the Delaware Valley.

Winds will be lighter than on Monday, although a few gusts near 20 mph are possible around midday, then skies will stay clear. Frost is likely in the Poconos and northwestern New Jersey, with a few other colder spots possibly getting close to freezing.

NEXT big weather changes

The NEXT big change is the arrival of our coolest air since spring.

Tuesday is a classic crisp October day: lots of sunshine, low humidity and highs only in the lower 60s. Even with full sun, you will probably want a light jacket for much of the day.

Wednesday starts a warming trend, with sunshine and temperatures returning to near normal.

Thursday will be the warmest day of the week, with highs climbing into the mid to upper 70s before temperatures settle back closer to normal Friday and into the weekend.

Overall, we're looking at a long stretch of pleasant, mostly sunny fall weather with no significant weather concerns. Our next chance for rain may hold off until Sunday at the earliest.

After two wet weekends in a row and 10 weekends since we've gone completely rain-free, this may finally be the stretch of October weather we've been waiting for.

We do need to watch a system forming in the Gulf, as it could be our next tropical system and potentially become our first hurricane of the season in the Atlantic Basin.
