Philadelphia Unveils a Mobile App to Promote Tourism
by KYW's Karin Phillips
Philadelphia has become the first city in the world to use a mobile application to promote itself and its convention center.
The new "Find Your Philly" mobile experience, built on SCVNGR, was unveiled by city officials today at the Independence Visitors Center. It's the city's official interactive mobile app for exploring Philadelphia and the expanding Pennsylvania Convention Center.
The app has five tours (or "treks") of the city and the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Jack Ferguson is executive vice president of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitor Bureau:
"Who wants to carry maps, who wants to load their purse up or the back of their pants pocket with information when you already have a mobile unit that you can easily do it and stay with it the entire time you're in Philadelphia."
The new app is downloadable on iPhone and Android, and also playable through text messaging. Blackberry is coming soon.
