Philadelphia To Celebrate United Nations International Day Of Peace On Wednesday
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphians are joining activists around the world this week in a day of peace and nonviolence.
If world peace is the goal, you have to begin with a single day. This Wednesday, September 21, is the 30th annual United Nations International Day of Peace, but it's the first time a wide array of Peace Day performances and conferences are being held in Philadelphia.
Local Peace Day organizer Lisa Parker says cynics may say world peace is unattainable, but that doesn't mean individuals can't make the world a better place.
"To move toward that goal—if you practice in your personal life, if you practice in your community, if you're more connected to what's going on in the world, it does make a difference," Parker says.
Peace Day events include an intercultural student videoconference and a "Bridges to Peace" musical program at the Ethical Society.
