Philadelphia State Representative Charged With DUI

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Police in Philadelphia say they arrested a state representative and charged her with drunk driving.

Police say Rep. Cherelle Parker of Philadelphia was pulled over early Sunday morning in the city's Germantown section.

Officer Tanya Little told The Philadelphia Inquirer on Thursday that police had observed Parker driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

The Inquirer reports Parker was released after a preliminary arraignment. Her next court appearance is June 1.

Parker's attorney, Joe Kelly, tells The Associated Press that the legislator "regrets putting herself in this position and will address these allegations at the appropriate time."

Parker is a 38-year-old Democrat who was first elected to the state House in 2005. She represents sections of northwest Philadelphia.
