Philadelphia City Council Could Get First Openly Transgender Member

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia politician is making history in Rittenhouse Square on Wednesday night.

Deja Lynn Alvarez announced her candidacy for a city council at-large seat.

Alvarez is the first openly transgender person to run for Philadelphia City Council.

The Democrat is a longtime activist.

The Pennsylvania Primary is May 21.
