PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The City of Philadelphia and Partners for Civic Pride celebrated Philadelphia Flag Day on Wednesday with a ceremony at City Hall.
At 118 years old, the Philadelphia Flag in yellow in blue boasts a motto -- Philadelphia Maneto -- which means "Let Brotherly Love Continue" and includes the values of hope, justice, peace and prosperity.
"There was an original vision for our city," says Leah Stauffer, Chair of the Partners for Civic Pride. "So we as a group had to figure out how do we make this piece of cloth come alive."
In 2012, the PFCP gave the first Maneto Award posthumously to legendary boxer Joe Frazier. The 2013 Maneto goes to former Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Annette John-Hall her compassionate coverage of social issues and under-reported groups in the city.
"We tried to show not how much we were different, but how much we were alike," she said during her speech.
Nominations for the 2014 Maneto Awards will open on Thursday and run through the end of the year.
