Parts Of Delaware Co. Hit Hard By Storm

CONCORDVILLE, Pa. (CBS) - On Beaver Dam Road in Honey Brook, a car became a prison when it got stuck in flood waters, then started filling with water, threatening to trap the driver inside. The woman was able to get out, but it took a tow truck to get her car out of the flood water.

The vehicle became a victim of the weather as heavy rain and wind swept across the region all day.

In Chadds Ford, rain in the morning turned into winds in the afternoon. Gusts rattled trees and knocked branches into power lines in some places, but the rain was not heavy enough to cause any serious flooding by the early evening hours.

"It's going to have to rain heavier than this," laughed Valerie Smith, who's seen the flooding when it gets really bad. She said it can come over the road and into her work.

At times, the rain or the wind would let up for a few minutes, only to come back with more force than before.

Patty Bell was heading into Philadelphia from Delaware County to celebrate her son's 30th birthday.

"I hope the weather is all right tonight," she said, echoing the thoughts of many in the area.

As day turned into night, the weather picked up. Heavier rain pushed from Delaware and Maryland into Pennsylvania, bringing with it gusting winds.
